Funeral service for Carlton R. Johnson, 91, will be today at 1 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. William P. (Buddy) Nelson and Dr. Wayne Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Odena Baptist Church Cemetery in Sylacauga. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Mr. Johnson passed away April 16, 2016 at Regional Medical Center. He was born September 15, 1924 in Sylacauga, Alabama. Survivors include his two daughters, M. Rose Fox and Patsy A. Johnson; sister, Marie Scoggins (Austin); special sister-in-law, Jo Moody; brothers-in- law, Lincoln (Marta) Graham and Blake Graham; numerous special nieces and nephews and special friends, Sid Nelson, Kay Key, Barry Fowler and Carol Malet. He was preceded in death by his wife, Avis Graham Johnson; parents, Jim and Pearl Johnson and brother, Curtis Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a graduate of B. B. Comer High School in Sylacauga and Jacksonville State Teachers College under the GI bill after serving in WWII. He was known in the area as the MUFFLER MAN and in later years he owned a sharpening service known as SURESHARPE. He had a love for flying small aircraft and was a pilot and instructor for many years flying out of McMinn airport. Mr. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church of Anniston (now McClellan) for almost 60 years. The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. V. M. Reddy who with his thoughtfulness and compassion guided us through a very difficult time. Also, a sincere thank you to RMC, especially the staff of 4th floor orthopedics, for their wonderful care and compassion.
