Graveside service for Mrs. Carolyn Brewer Burroughs, 79, will be held at 2:00 p.m. today, January 24, 2017, at Ashland City Cemetery with Dr. Roland Brown and Dr. Michael Williams officiating. Carolyn passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at her residence. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thurman and Nettie Brewer, and her brother, Michael Brewer. Carolyn was born on September 18, 1937 in Ashland to Thurman and Nettie Horn Brewer. She was a charter member of Golden Springs Baptist Church, where she was very active. Carolyn taught Sunday School, Training Union and Bible School when her children were growing up. She also co-founded the Girls in Action program at Golden Springs Baptist Church. More recently, she had been president of her own Sunday School class. Carolyn believed in serving others and found great joy in doing so. Throughout her life, Carolyn was involved in many clubs and organizations. Some of her achievements include president of the Anniston Garden Club, charter member of the AlaBenton Genealogical Society and many years as president of the Golden Springs Elementary PTA. She was a Brownie Troop Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother and a classroom mom. Her children meant the world to her and she enjoyed watching them participate in their sports and activities. She was most proud when her son made the baseball team at Auburn, even though she was an avid Alabama fan. But nothing could surpass the joy she had watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren do anything. They were truly the joy of her life. Her family will dearly miss her. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 60 years, David Burroughs; her daughter, Karon (Barry) Musemeche; her son, Steven Burroughs; her grandchildren, Brett Ashlyn (Jay) Crain, Trey (Megan) Musemeche, Tyler Musemeche, Brady Burroughs and Brooke Burroughs; her great-grandchildren, Connor Musemeche, Maddie Musemeche and Colby Crain, and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Trey Musemeche, Tyler Musemeche and Brady Burroughs; her nephews, Derek Brewer and Gerard Brewer; and her son-in-law, Barry Musemeche.
