Carolyn Elizabeth Brooks, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at St. Vincent's East in Birmingham, AL following an illness. Her loving kindness and charitable spirit will be sorely missed by her family and friends, along with her maternal, loving guidance. Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, David Brooks, Sr. and is survived by her two daughter, Donna McCurry (Skip) of Trussville; son, David Brooks, Jr. (Leah) of Fort Payne, AL. Her rich family life included her grandchildren, Kelly Craven (Kyle) of Fort Payne, AL, Kristal Almond (Morris) of Powder Springs, GA, Nia Johnson (Jonathan) of Trussville, AL, David Brooks III (Rachel) of Powder Springs, GA and William McCurry (Brooke) of St. Petersburg, FL; and four great-grandchildren. Carolyn was a fixture in the business community in both Anniston and Oxford. She was the manager of the Holiday Inn in Oxford for decades and was a true pioneer of early business women during the 1970's, 80's and 90's. She was named, and featured in articles, as a "prominent business woman and leader" by The Anniston Star. Fort McClellan dignitaries and Talladega race track officials (and Drivers) were regularly treated by her hospitality and business savvy. Carolyn met many national figures, actors and sports stars and was instrumental in being an unofficial ambassador for Calhoun, Talladega and surrounding counties. She spent her retirement decades being a constant source of maternal guidance for her family. She never spoke an ill word, maintained an orderly upbeat demeanor, and served as a source of inspiration to her family. Carolyn was a long time member of The First Baptist Church of Saks. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Deerfoot Church of Christ in Pinson, AL. The family will receive friends at 11:00 and the service begins at 12:00.
