Service for Cecil Edward Hanson, Jr., 69, will be Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Ingram and the Rev. Charles Hanson officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Hanson passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016, at his home. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Marcia Hanson; five children, Keith Hanson (Carie), of Jacksonville, Kelly Johnson (Steve), of Piedmont, Pam Steed (Chad), of Piedmont, Missy Barger (Danny), of Jacksonville and Chris Hanson (Kim), of Piedmont; ten grandchildren, Kassadie and Ian Hanson, Jessica Williams and Kiona Turner, Jalen and Alec Johnson, Remington Steed, and Macy, Max, and Mitch Hanson; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bobbie Ward, Sandra Adderhold (Jim) and Martha Rhinehart; three brothers, Jimmy Hanson (Cyndi), Charles Hanson (Susan) and Dennis Hanson (Eva); and mother-in-law, Alice Steward. Pallbearers will be Jalen Johnson, Alec Johnson, Steve Johnson, Chad Steed, Stevie Goss, Johnny Bain, Jeremy Goss and Daniel Steward. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School class of the First Baptist Church of Piedmont. Mr. Hanson was a graduate of Spring Garden High School, he attended JSU, and was a U.S. Air Force Vietnam Veteran. He retired from the Alabama Army National Guard and the United States Postal Service. He served multiple terms on the Piedmont City Council and was an active member of the Piedmont Athletic Booster Club and the First Baptist Church of Piedmont, where he was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and walking his furry friend, Levi. Mr. Hanson was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil E. Hanson Sr. and Ruby F.
