Memorial service for Cecil Roy Johnston, 67, will be Friday, July 01, 2016, at 7 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Ingram officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Johnston passed away June 27, 2016 at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center. Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Jane Johnston, of Piedmont; two daughters, Stephanie Johnston and Amber Thornburg (Jesse), all of Piedmont; two granddaughters, Savannah Grace Thornburg and Ava Joanne Thornburg; one sister, Brenda Patterson (Rex), of Rainbow City; three brothers, Donnie Johnston and Kenneth Johnson, both of Jacksonville and Wayne Johnston, of Ft. Payne, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Johnston was a resident of Calhoun County most of his life and was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Federal Mogul with over 20 years of service and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In younger years Cecil was a member of a band with Mike Yates and Tommy Homesley. He enjoyed all kinds of music, played the drums and guitar and could play the piano by ear. He loved to watch the History channel and read books about history. He loved to draw and was an avid Alabama fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Myrtie Johnston, and three brothers, Tim, Dennis and Ricky Johnston. wwwthompsonfuneralhomepiedmont.com
