Chalmers "Chuck" William Hipp, 82, passed away peacefully in his home on July 30, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Hazel, and four children, Sheila Horne (Gary), Donna Haynes (Roger), Patti Smith (Stuart), and Brian Hipp (Brooke). He also leaves behind eight beloved grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Norris William; his parents, Stella Mae and J.T. Hipp, and his sister, Carolyn Lowery. He was born on January 23, 1935, as one of the first set of triplets at Jefferson Hillman Hospital in Birmingham. Chuck and triplet brother, James Hipp and triplet sister, Earnestine Whitten (Richard), joined a large family of sisters, Ora Mae Aitken, Catherine Ogburn (Gerald), Eleanor Brasher (Bill), and Jane Coshatt. Chuck retired from the Navy, with full honors after 20 years of service, which included the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He earned numerous military commendations and medals, including the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star with Valor, and the Navy Commendation Medal. Following military retirement, Chuck worked at Lee Brass for 20 years. Twice retired, Chuck was able to pursue his true passion and hobbies. Affectionately known as a "jack of all trades" and a friend to all. Visitation will be held today, August 1, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 2 p.m. Both services will be held at Golden Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Roland Brown officiating.
