Funeral service for Mr. Charles A. Norris, 94, will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with the Reverend Johnny Cash officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Norris passed away August 29, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Norris was born in Columbus, Ga. to William and Virginia Norris. He attended Jordan High School in Columbus and married Loretta Christine Bowman in 1941. He joined the United States Navy in 1943 and served on the destroyer USS Strong in the Pacific until World War II ended in 1945. After the war, Mr. Norris returned to Columbus, working various jobs at Colonial Bakery and Kinnette Dairies. He took a job with Family Finance Company in Columbus, it led to his promotion to General Office Manager in Anniston in 1952. Another promotion to regional supervisor led to his moving to Mobile. An opportunity to purchase a partnership at Anniston's Ward Finance Company brought him back to Anniston. After the death of his wife, Mr. Norris lived in Pell City for several years and attended Eden Westside Baptist Church. He enjoyed landscaping and gardening. Mr. Norris was dedicated to the Lord, and he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mr. Norris is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Loretta Christine Norris. He is survived by his daughters, Sharmon L. (Johnny) Cash, of Pell City and Rebecca A. (Jesse) Poore, of Anniston; a son, Charles F. (Faye) Norris, of Ft. Myers, Fla.; grandchildren, Kevin Rogers, Steve Norris, Dan Norris, Christie Denton, Ashley Cobb, and Jessica Carroll; three great grandchildren; four nieces, and two nephews. Pallbearers will be Kevin Rogers, Johnny Cash, Jed Cotton, Wesly Denton, Woodrow Brown, and John Duncan. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Alacare Hospice and Home Health, as well as, Signature In Home Care for the wonderful care given to Mr. Norris and his family during this time.
