CW4 Charles Coy Callender, Jr., 75, US Army, Retired, went to be with his Lord on July 6, 2014 at his home in Jacksonville. A memorial service to celebrate Coy's life will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, in Jacksonville, with the Rev. Kenneth Bullard and Jim Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at funeral home Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Coy is survived by his wife of 21 years, Barbara J. Callender and other family members and friends. He was a member of Harmony Christian Fellowship Church. Coy proudly served his country by volunteering for Vietnam in 1963-1964 and 1968-1969. He also served at several other installations to include Fort Ord, Calif., Germany, Korea, West Point, N.Y., Camp Gordon, Ga., Fort Benning, Ga., Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Fort Campbell, Ky., Fort Jackson, S.C., Fort Bragg, N.C. and Fort McClellan, Ala. Coy retired from the US Army in 1985 at Fort McClellan, Ala. with 30 years of honorable service. He frequently quoted, "I wish my country loved me as much as I love my country".
