The funeral service for Mr. Charles Norman "Bunk" Ponder, 89, will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Williams with the Reverend Chris Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at the Williams Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 5-7 at the church. Mr. Ponder passed away on December 13, 2016 at his home. Mr. Ponder served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean War. He went on to retire after 36 years as a district engineer with the Alabama Department of Transportation. Mr. Ponder was a member of First Baptist Church of Williams and had served as a deacon. He loved to travel and watching his grandchildren play ball. He will also be remembered for his uncanny ability to tell a good story. Mr. Ponder is preceded in death by a son, Mike Ponder; his parents, Herman and Russia Ponder; and two brothers, Doug and Mick Ponder. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Louise Green Ponder; his daughter, Deb Webb (Richie); a son, Donny Ponder (Jane); a daughter-in-law, Eileen Ponder; grandchildren, Krystle Ponder McMullen (Greg), Cody Ponder, David Ponder, Kyra Webb, Matt Webb, and Kyle Webb; three great- grandchildren, Madison Webb, Nataly Webb, and Liam McMullen; sisters, Dolores Green, Kay Smith and Joyce Connell (J.H.); numerous nieces and nephews; and his special fur friend, Sam. Pallbearers will be David Ponder, Matt Webb, Kyle Webb, Cody Ponder, Greg McMullen, and Tyron Green. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Williams. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Williams, 5579 Nisbet Lake Road, Jacksonville, AL 36265. Online condolences may be made to the family at K.L.
