The funeral service for Mr. Charles R. Fuller, 87, will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015, at Parker Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Mack Amis and the Reverend Gene Webb officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church parlor. Interment will follow at Oxford Memorial Gardens. Mr. Fuller passed away on January 14, 2015 at NE Alabama Regional Medical Center. Mr. Fuller born in Birmingham and moved to Anniston when he was 12 years old. He was a 1945 graduate of Anniston High School and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired after 35 years as a locomotive engineer with Norfolk Southern Railroad. In 1988, he was named Engineer of the Year. He was a longtime member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Anniston where he served as a Deacon for over 50 years, taught Training Union to young boys, worked in Vacation Bible School and was active in the audio visual department. He was elected and served for 16 years as a Calhoun County Commissioner during which time he helped facilitate putting the Calhoun County Administration Building and the Calhoun County Jail in their current locations. He was also a member of the Anniston Kiwanis Club where he had served as president and always looked forward to the Annual Kiwanis Pancake Day. He would always strive to sell the most tickets every year. He also participated in the Back to School Shopping program for many years. He and his wife also participated in the Meals on Wheels program by delivering meals to shut ins. Mr. Fuller is preceded in death by his wife, Ilene Phillips Fuller; an infant daughter, Mary Cornelius Fuller; his parents, William Sloan Fuller and Myrtle Hall Fuller and his brothers, Carl Alan Fuller and Walter Sloan Fuller. He is survived by his daughter, Charlene Fuller Gossett and her husband, Mike, of Birmingham; niece and nephews, Chuck Fuller and his wife, Melissa, Walter Fuller and his wife, Jeanette, Michael Fuller and his wife, Wendy, all of Ga., Alan Fuller and his wife, Bille, of Decatur, Susan Whitman and her husband, David, of Birmingham and other extended family members. Pallbearers will be the deacons of Parker Memorial Baptist Church. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Anniston Kiwanis Club.
