Christine McClellan Rentschler, 92, died at UAB Hospital in Birmingham on June 11, 2014. A native of Calhoun County, Christine was a graduate of Wilmer Ave. Elementary School and Anniston High School. She held two degrees from Jacksonville State University: B.S. and M.S. She taught at the Episcopal Day School, at Jacksonville State University, and retired from Anniston High School after teaching Senior English for 20 years. She was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church. Christine was the daughter of Floyd and Violet McClellan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Cornelia Moon; her brother, Clarence Floyd and her beloved husband of 59 years, Robert Rentschler. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Rentschler (Gary Bogart), of St. Pete Beach, Fla.; her son, Robert Rentschler (Nancy), of Birmingham; two granddaughters, Erika (Jason) Rentschler Harvell, of Tuscaloosa and Brittney Rentschler, of Los Angeles, Calif. and several cousins. Christine was a member of Kappa Delta Pi educational fraternity and Sigma Tau Delta English fraternity. She was active in the Philomathic Study Club and in teachers' organizations. In retirement, she was a member of the Friends of the Anniston-Calhoun County Public Library. She enjoyed reading, listening to music and writing some autobiographical items. Her real loves were literature and drama and any activities of her grandchildren. Christine had said she would like to be remembered as having had the opportunity of touching the lives of the young people whom she taught through the years. Funeral service will be Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Gray Brown Service Mortuary, Anniston, with the Rev. Mack Amis officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Gardens. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Gray Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Martin's in the Pines, Evergreen Unit, 100 Woodside Dr., Birmingham, AL 35210 or to Friends of the Anniston-Calhoun County Public Library.
