Clara Ross Melton

Clara Ross Melton, 97, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Clara was born in Kathleen, Florida on October 31, 1918, the ninth and youngest child of Lennie Grace and William Asbury Ross. She was married to Lewis Edwin Melton from 1938 until 1985 and they raised four daughters together. Clara was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Melbourne and greatly enjoyed sharing her time and talents in support of the United Methodist Women and other church-affiliated groups. She also served as the Church's wedding director for many years. All her life, Clara delighted in the beauties of nature, especially anything that bloomed. She was skilled at growing and arranging flowers and was frequently called upon to create beautiful floral centerpieces for parties and other special events. Clara also enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to two clubs composed of church friends who played together for over forty years. Clara's survivors include daughters, Judy Holmes, Kay Heimmer (Harry), Lennie Pence (Pat Ruane) and Renee Melton; grandchildren, Haden Holmes Brown, Carole Kay Pence, Heather Heimmer Moody (Brandon), Brian Pence (Shawna), Ross Beardsley and Grace Beardsley Garcia (Brian); great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Brown, Clara Pence, Elle Pence and Braeden Garcia. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her granddaughter, Julie Anne Holmes; and her son-in-law, Dr. Julian E. Holmes. See more at
