Funeral service for Mrs. Clara Shears Smith, 88, of Lineville, will be today, March 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Stone and the Rev. Pete Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Smith passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Lineville Health and Rehabilitation Center. A native of Clay County, she had lived in Anniston from 1945 until 1969 when she returned to Clay County. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren as well as working outside taking care of her yard. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, George O. Smith, of Bynum; three daughters, Bobbie Pate (Rev. Lawrence), Linda McCurry (Ken) and Rita Dempsey (Rodney), all of Lineville; one son, Rodney Shears (Carolyn), of Lineville; one step-daughter, Carla Price (Tom), of Choccolocco; two step-sons: Jerry Smith (Alice), of Bynum and Larry Smith (Von), of Enterprise; one sister, Effie Slick, of Lineville; one brother, Walter Lacey (Ruby), of Birmingham; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Flonnie I. Lacey and Lois Griffin Lacey; her first husband, William Shears Jr.; three sisters, Josie Dale Daniel, Mary McCain and Esther Brown; three brothers, Floyd Lacey, Warren Lacey and George Lacey. Pallbearers will be Jeff Odom, Dillon Adams, Dustin Pate, Taylor Pate, Sonny Denson and Greg Pate. Mrs. Smith will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to service time today.
