Claudene Fay Phillips Thrasher, 81, passed away tragically and suddenly on March 8, 2017 in a car accident with her husband, Paul Thrasher Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonah Alf Phillips and Ella Mae James Phillips, and her siblings, Ella Maude Phillips Hardy, Paul Phillips, Carl Phillips, Lila Phillips Wilson, Lois Phillips Ware, Mildred Phillips Aycox, Mabel Phillips, Claude Phillips (Claudene's twin), and Fred Phillips. She is survived by her son, Paul Thrasher Jr.; daughter-in-law, Karen Thrasher; grandsons, Daniel, Jeremy, and Brian Thrasher. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Claudene was a lifelong Alabamian, born in Sumiton on July 7, 1935. She married her husband, Paul Leroy Thrasher Sr. on May 1, 1954. Claudene briefly worked outside of the home as a typist, but was primarily a loving wife and mother to the couple's son P.J. (Paul Jr.). Later, she helped her husband, Paul with his appraisal business. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church, and an avid reader. At home, she'd have three or four books going on at a time in different parts of the house, so there was always one within reach. Claudene proved throughout her life how much she cared about her family, from gifts to cards to kind words. She'll be dearly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. A celebration of life for Claudene Thrasher will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Aycox and Elder Wayne Crocker officiating. The viewing time for family is at 9:30 a.m. Online condolences may be expressed at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home, Dora Directing 205-648-2323
