Funeral service for Mr. Clayton "Doc" Monroe Newton, 88, will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Eden New Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight, February 25, 2016, from 6 - 8 at the funeral home. Mr. Newton passed away on February 21, 2016 at Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi. He is survived by his sons, Ronald C. Newton and his wife, Beverly, of Seminole, Fla. and Donald L. Newton and his wife, Patti, of Van Austen, Texas; seven grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren and sister, Mary Newton Sullivan. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Sullivan Newton and his parents, William and Hattie Newton. Mr. Newton spent the last five years at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Miss. with 168 of his best friends. He retired from the US Army after 25 years of service. Mr. Newton was a very patriotic veteran and loved his country. He loved his grandchildren but especially loved his greatgrandchildren. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1954. Mr. Newton was a life member of Claybank Lodge #908 located in Ozark, Alabama.
