Service for Curtis I. Pope, 88, will be Saturday, September 6, 2014, at noon at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Ingram officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Mr. Pope passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Survivors include his children, Lance Pope (Peggy), of Douglasville, Ga.; Shannon Hayes, of Piedmont; Garry Pope (Harriet), of Rainbow City; Larry Pope (Melissa), of Piedmont and Jeff Pope (Michelle), of Fairbanks, Alaska; seven grandchildren, Jason Buhl, Suzanne Helms, Chris Pope, Morgan Pope, Kirk Pope, Curtis Pope and Samuel Pope; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Garvin Cole (Betty), Alvis Cole (Ann) and Revis Cole (Margie), all of Piedmont and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Chris Pope, Kirk Pope, Duncan Helms, Jeff Helms, Curtis Pope and Samuel Pope. Honorary pallbearers will be Lozahatchee Masonic Lodge #97 F&AM. Mr. Pope was a lifelong resident of Piedmont and attended the First Baptist Church of Piedmont. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and was a member and past commander of the V.F.W and the American Legion. He had been the owner and operator of Pope's City Barber Shop since 1958. He was also a member of Lozahatchee Masonic Lodge #97 A&FM for over 50 years. Mr. Pope was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Pope and a grandson, Corey Pope.
