The funeral service for Mr. Dale Edwin Gann, 56, will be held at 1 p.m. today, August 10, 2016, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with Reverend Dale Clem officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Dale passed away on Monday morning at 6:15 a.m. at UAB Hospital in Birmingham following a short illness. Although Dale was born in Calhoun County, he had spent most of his adult years in Birmingham. He graduated with honors from The Donoho School and was awarded a full four year scholarship to Birmingham Southern College. He went on to graduate from Birmingham Southern with majors in both Biology and Math. Dale's talents were many faceted. He was the owner of a flower shop for a time where he grew orchids and participated in many shows throughout the southeast, earning many wards of distinction. He was a member of the local and national Orchid Society. He loved water skiing, music, travel, tropical fish, antiques, and was quite an accomplished chef. He was also a jeweler for a while. He was fun loving and really enjoyed people. Dale is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lyon and Mable Crichton and John and Flora Gann. He is survived by his parents, Bill and Mary Ann Gann; his aunts, Pat Burns and her husband, Billie, Wilda Patterson, Ann Mobley and Berniece Sanders; one uncle, Jim Gann and his wife, Janella, and many cousins and friends. Pallbearers will be Sonny Israel, Boyden Moore, Shad Moore, Jerry Patterson, Greg Johnson and Lynn Lovelady. The family wishes to give their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all the doctors and staff in MICU at UAB Hospital in Birmingham for the tender loving care provided to Dale.
