Mr. Dan C. Henderson, 89, passed away August 19, 2014, at his home. Service will be held at Lakeview Baptist Church in Oxford at 11 a.m. on August 22, 2014, with the Rev. Darrell Paulk and the Rev. Jerry Starling officiating. Burial will be at Forestlawn Gardens with Miller Funeral Home in charge. Visitation will be from 5- 8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Mr. Henderson was well known throughout Calhoun County for his contributions to the Calhoun County School System. He is survived by one daughter, Susan Henderson Durham and her husband, Donald; daughter, Kristi; four sons, Terry, his wife, Sue and son, Wes, Danny Michael, his wife, Cyndy and daughter, Laura Wassermann and her husband, Ehren and son, Emmett, son, Matthew and his wife Kendall, David and his wife, Denise and daughter, Amy son, Christopher; one niece, Gayle Bachus (Roy); one nephew Bobby Henderson (Sarah). Mr. Henderson attended White Plains High School, Jacksonville State University where he earned a BS and an MS Degree and the University of Florida where he earned an "All-Paid" school expense and a salary scholarship. There he earned a six degree in School Administration, Finance, Testing and Guidance. He taught school at Saks, White Plains and Coldwater. He served as Principal of Coldwater School when the new school was built. He worked in the Superintendent's Office as Director of the Instructional Materials Center, Testing and Guidance. He was a Veteran of World War II with service in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operation. He was Assistant Superintendent over Personnel Services and for seven and a half years served as Superintendent's Office as Director of the Calhoun County School System. He worked for the State Department of Education in Montgomery for two years. He and his "lovely" wife of 67 years were avid outdoors people. After his retirement they visited 49 states, most of Canada, some of Mexico and the Bahamas and Long East Caribbean cruises. He always gave God credit for any and all of his achievements and for giving him the best wife and family he could ask for.
