Daniel Lawrence Davis, 20, died on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 after a 5-year battle with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare childhood cancer. Daniel was born on December 24, 1994, in Anniston, Ala. and was the son of Randall and Denise (Gibbs) Davis. He attended Jacksonville City Schools and graduated from Jacksonville High School in 2013, where he was a member of the marching band, jazz band, and indoor drumline. He was a student at Jacksonville State University in fall of 2014, studying computer science and music. Daniel played electric guitar and enjoyed all types of music. He often wrote reviews of albums for online sites and went to many concerts in Birmingham and Atlanta. He briefly worked at WLJS 92 J, the JSU campus radio station. Daniel loved to watch Comedy Central, play video games and was on his way to buying every CD in the universe. Daniel is survived by his parents, Randall and Denise Davis, of Jacksonville; his brother, James; he also leaves his maternal grandparents, James and June Gibbs, of Monroeville, Pa.; his paternal grandparents, Craig and Sondra Davis, of Wilton, Maine; he is survived by aunts and uncles, Mike Davis, Cindy Davis, Ruth (Gibbs) and Paul Masula, Jay Gibbs and Aleta Gibbs; cousins, Nicole Schiller (Jason), Colleen Hill (Tony), Stuart Masula, Joshua Gibbs, Arianna Gibbs, Meaghan Davis, Audrey Davis and Elizabeth Davis. We would like especially to thank Dr. Stuart Cramer, Julia Adams, Dr. Samer Al-Hamdani, Teresa Meadows, Dr. Joseph Pressey, Jeffrey Barrett and all the staff at Children's Hospital of Alabama, Dr. Herrick Siegel at UAB, Medical City Hospital in Dallas, Texas and the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Md. Your skill and patience allowed Daniel to live a life with cancer as normally as possible. Also many thanks to our church family at JFUMC for their prayers and support over the years. Thanks to our relatives and friends and a special thank you to Daniel's friends, who were faithful and kind and giving of their time to keep in touch with him and just hang out and have fun. Your friendships meant the world to Daniel and you all helped him throughout his fight. Visitation will be at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center on Friday, October 16, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Jacksonville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Andy Curtis and the Rev. Lyle Holland officiating. Active pallbearers will be James Davis, Mike Davis, Joshua Gibbs, Jay Gibbs, Tony Hill, Paul Masula, Jason Schiller and Steve Whitton. Honorary pallbearers will be D. Craig Davis and James J. Gibbs. The family will accept flowers but also ask that you consider donations for cancer research to the Developmental Therapeutics Program.
