Funeral service for Dara Joe Whitman, 82, will be Friday, December 4, 2015, 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. The Rev. Darrell Paulk and the Rev. Chris Spurlin will be officiating. Entombment will follow at the Forestlawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Whitman passed away on Wednesday at Grandview Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Margie Whitman; daughters Teresa Underwood (Dan), Pam Miller (Ken Hearin) and Judy Landcaster; sister-in-law, Merlene Whitman; a host of grandchildren and a host of great- grandchildren. Pallbearers will be John Vile Jr., Brandon Miller, Joshua Franklin, Ken Hearin and Dan Underwood. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lakeview Baptist Church, Men's Senior Adult Sunday Class. Mr. Whitman had been a resident of Oxford for the past 60 years. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Mr. Whitman was retired from Classe Ribbon Company of Anniston, AL. Mr. Whitman was a very avid gardener and outdoors man. Mr. Whitman was preceded in death by his brother, Don Whitman; daughters, Kathy Jean Whitman and Karen Whitman; sons, Grover Wayne Carter and Timothy Carter. In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donation may be made to Lakeview Baptist Church Building Fund.
