The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Smith passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016, in Anniston. David is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Doris Smith. Pallbearers will be family members. Mr. Smith was a resident of Alexandria all of his life. He was owner and operator of Smith Trucking Company for many years before purchasing his own 18 wheeler and driving cross country touring the U.S. as he worked. He learned the truck driving trade along with mechanics as a young boy working alongside his father. He knew the Highways so well, he was a human GPS. From anywhere and any point he could give clear directions. David had a habit of calling people by nicknames, and that is what they were known by - Rooster, Monkey, Q-Eller, Jabbo, Rowdy, Red - just to name a few. A special thanks to the doctors and nurses at RMC ICU for the tender care of David in his last days. Online condolences at graybrownservice.com
