Service for the Rev. David Wayne King, 78, will be Sunday, September 6, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Golden Springs Baptist Church with the Dr. Roland Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Piedmont. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 - 7 at Thompson Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service. The Rev. King passed away Friday, September 4, 2015, at his home. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha King, of Piedmont; three children, Wanda Sprayberry (Steve), of Heflin, Phillip W. King (Ginger), of Smyrna, Ga. and Ross King (Tracy), of Sylacauga; four grandchildren, Amanda Wentzel, Chris Wentzel (Laura), Dakota King and Dalton King and one sister, Judith King of Carrollton, Georgia. Mr. King was a native of Piedmont and a graduate of Piedmont High School. He received his BS degree from Samford University and received a Masters in Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He pastored churches in Weogufka, Oakman, Harpersville and several churches in Calhoun County as well as Glensboro, Kentucky and Tampa, Florida.
