Funeral service for Denise Chaney Parker, 43, (formerly of York, Ala.) will be held 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Ward, Alabama. Dr. O. L. Sealey, officiating with Elder Renay Woodruff, Eulogist. Burial will follow in the Mt. Mariah Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will be held today at the funeral home between the hours of 1 - 7 p.m. with a wake from 5 - 7 p.m. The Goodson Funeral Home, Inc. directing. Denise graduated from Sumter County High School in York in 1989. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Alabama State University in Montgomery and Master's Degree in Education from Jacksonville State University. She worked as an educator in the Anniston City School System for 17 years. She was a member of the Alabama Education Association and Education Association of Anniston. Her commitment to the service of others was further fulfilled when she was inducted into the Anniston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Survivors include her husband, Menzo Parker Jr., of Jacksonville; children, Savon Emanu Parker and Cameron Parker, both of Jacksonville; mother, Johnny Mae Chaney, of York, Ala.; brothers, George Willis Chaney, of Pensacola, Fla., Kevin Portis (Tracy), of Ga.; father-in-law, Willie C. Bailey, of Plantersville, Ala.; six brothers-in-law, Willie C. Bailey Jr., of Albany, Ga., Cedric (Angela) Bailey and Christopher (Antrenna) Bailey, both of Plantersville, Ala., Eric (Crystal) Bailey, of Maplesville, Ala., Shunn (Kristy) Bailey, Jemison, Ala. and Jamie Parker, of York, Ala.; two grandmothers, Katie Chaney, of York, Ala. and Leona Murphy, of Selma, Ala.; two nieces, CoShanna and Raven Chaney, of Pennington, Ala.; two nephews, CoShawn and Fabian Chaney, of Pennington, Ala. and a host of numerous cousins, relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
