Funeral service for Donald Everett Wheeler, 64, will be Sunday, October 5, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Pike officiating. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Wheeler passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Paula White Wheeler, of Piedmont; son, Andrew (Regina) Wheeler, of Helena; daughter, Ashley Grainger (Mark), of Chelsea; sisters, Nancy (Steve) Narrie of, Snellville, Ga. and Susan (Robert) Holt, of Huntsville; uncle, Thomas Wheeler, of Gadsden; grandchildren, Griffin Grainger, Whitley Grainger and Davis Wheeler; five nieces; two nephews and a number of great-nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Colby Acker, Steve Narrie, Robert Holt, Lyle Holt, Troy Dobbs, Brian Donaldson, Louie Parker and David Coheley. Honorary pallbearers will be the Piedmont Blue Knights alumni. Mr. Wheeler was a 1969 graduate of Emma Sansom High School where he was head drummer. He graduated from Auburn University in 1975 and served in the Army Reserve. He taught music and was a band director at Emma Sansom High School and Piedmont High School where he led the Piedmont Blue Knights to many awards and honors before his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Maurine Hyde Wheeler, of Gadsden and a great-niece, Rebecca Holt, of Huntsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made be made to the Piedmont Blue Knights Band Boosters, c/o Piedmont High School, 750 AL Highway 200, Piedmont, AL 36272.
