Memorial service for Mr. Donald Ray Walker, 81, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 24, at the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville with Dr. Derek Staples officiating. There will be a time of fellowship immediately following the service. Mr. Walker died Thursday, July 21, 2016, at his residence. A native of Knoxville, Tenn., he moved to Calhoun County during his teenage years and later served our nation in the Army during the Korean Conflict. After earning his Masters of Education, he began a 30 year career as a teacher, coach, and assistant principal at Alexandria High School. Besides his love for AHS sports, he loved to fish, loved his family, and was known to have a witty sense of humor. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Music Ministry of his home church, the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, 230 7th St NE, Jacksonville, AL, 36265. Mr Walker is survived by his wife, Joyce McGathy Walker; daughter, Pam Walker Turner; son, Vann Walker (Missy); daughter, Anna Walker Messer (Craig); grandchildren, Paige Strickland (Jason), Nick, Taylor, Peyton, Walker, Kobe, Nash; great-grandchildren, Brently and Evie; along with two brothers; Tommy Walker and R.L. Walker. Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents; Ray and Annalee Walker; sisters, Patsy Large, Wylene Walker, and by his brother, Vance Walker. His grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers; Nicholas Vann Walker, Walker Reese Messer, Kobe Adison Messer and Hayden Nash Messer.
