Funeral service for Mr. Donald William Bridges, 72, will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with Rev. James Cohorn officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 6-8 at the funeral home. Mr. Bridges passed on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham. Mr. Bridges is survived by his daughters, Fara Bridges, Khristy Bridges, and Ashton Vaughn; brothers, Neil Bridges, and Steve Bridges; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Brad Bridges, Chad Bridges, Johnny Martin, Tommy Gamel, Thomas "Putt" Hughes, and Darrin Vaughn. Mr. Bridges is preceded in death by his wife, Sue Bridges; mother, Ruby Bridges, and father, Iverson Bridges. Mr. Bridges served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years on the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War. He was employed with Lee Brass as a pipe fitter for 13 years before going to work at the Anniston Army Depot for 28 years before retiring in 2008. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed baking cakes, and pies, NASCAR, gardening, and his monthly get togethers with his retired Depot friends.
