Funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy 'Dot' Elizabeth Roberts Dempsey, 93, of Oxford will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at noon in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Jerry Starling and the Rev. Chris Spurlin officiating. Music will be provided by the Rev. Minnie Bailey and Debbie Owen. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10-12 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Dempsey passed away peacefully on January 12, 2015 at her home. She is survived by her son, Billy and Lynne Dempsey; daughter, Beth and Keith Badgett; grandson, Corey and Joni Badgett; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dempsey is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William Dempsey; parents, Lee Roy and Arrie Roberts; sisters, Ethelyn and J.T. Gaines, Evelyn and Loyce Owen; in-laws, Henderson and Sandra Dempsey, Minnie Lee and James McCary and J.C. Dempsey. Pallbearers will be Aaron Pate, Anthony Pate, Larry Dempsey, Rodney Dempsey, John Patterson and Donald McCary with Gerald Owen, Leroy Gaines and Chester Huckaby,John Dempsey and Jody Dempsey serving as honorary pallbearers. Dot graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1941 with the love of her life, William. Until going to her Heavenly Home, Dot was the longest living member of Lakeview Baptist Church where she joined in 1940. She was an active member of the church where she sang in the choir, taught the 4 and 5 year old Sunday School Class for 37 years, and participated in various church activities. Dot enjoyed traveling and being with friends and neighbors but her biggest enjoyment was her family. She enjoyed going on family vacations and being in their presence. Dot loved her community and home town. Dot was loved and cared for by many and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Flowers will be accepted and memorials can be made to the building fund at Lakeview Baptist Church. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dot's caregivers, Sandra Beard, Lynda Werner, Linda Ashworth and Stephanie West for their love and dedication.
