Funeral service for Douglas Lamar Higgins, 74, will be on Monday, June 12, 2017, 3 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. The Rev. Virgil Bohn and Pastor Gary Burns will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Higgins passed away on Saturday at National Health Care after fighting a battle with cancer. Survivors include his wife, Paula Higgins; daughters, Britt Mitchell, Ashley Crowson (Danny); son, Craig Higgins; daughter, Shannon Moore (Brian); sister, Joyce Howell (G.A. "Buddy"); brother, Louis Higgins (Sandy); grandchildren. Jake Johnson, Lucy Williams, Daniel Crowson, Lauren Crowson, Taylor Moore, Judd Moore, Allie Higgins, Ashlyn Higgins; several nieces, nephews, and fur babies, Bubbles, Waggs and Goldie. Doug was born July 15, 1942 in Anniston. He worked at Fabarc Steel and UPS. Doug enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing sports and participating in other activities. He was an avid Alabama football fan. Doug was a member of Eulaton United Methodist Church. Doug was preceded in death by parents, Louis and Alberta Higgins; brother, Raymond Higgins; sister, Evelyn Gilliland; step-sister, Edith Shealey, and a step-brother, Edwin Higgins.
