Edward George Smarsh, 65, passed away December 11, 2016 in Arizona. Edward served in the Vietnam conflict in the U.S. Air Force as a Fire Protection Specialist and was stationed in Thailand. Edward's passions were constructing energy efficient houses, painting and playing in pool tournaments. He is survived by his daughter, Brandy (Ryan Cobb) and a very special grandson, Gavin Bass, which he held close to his heart, all of Piedmont; a sister, Sandy; a special cousin, Joan (Steve) Peters; several cousins, nieces and nephews; special close friends, Mike (Teresa) McGinnis, and Bill (Judy) Baker. A memorial will be held today at the Alabama National Cemetery at 2 p.m., in Montevallo, with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to send a donation to www. smarshfund.com, for the research program Pawsitivity, for service dogs to help veterans suffering with PTSD.
