The funeral service for Edward W. "Ed" Colburn, age 86, will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Barfield Baptist Church with the Rev. John Howell officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens. Mr. Colburn passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at his home. A Hillsboro, N. H. native, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Berlin Airlift, the Korean War and Vietnam. Mr. Colburn retired in the grade of Master Sergeant following 20 years of service. He settled in Lineville in 1967 and served the city of Lineville as Fire Chief and Building Inspector. He was also one of the founding members of the Clay County Rescue Squad and graduated from Southern Union State Community College with an associate's degree in applied science. Mr. Colburn was a member of Barfield Baptist Church. Mr. Colburn is survived by two daughters, Debbie Colburn Duke (William), of Columbus, Ga., and Sharon Colburn Miller (Jim), of Opelika; one son, Victor Colburn (Cathy), of Lineville; one brother, Phillip Colburn (Flora), of N.H.; five grandchildren, David Duke (Tiffany), Katie Duke-Ingram (Jarod), Bonnie Miller, Jamie Watts (Neil), Ashley Williams (Basil), and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Melrose Colburn and Ida Mae Gould Colburn; his wife of 55 years, Mary Frances Camp Colburn; three sisters and their spouses, Doris Bent, Beverly Sweeney (Bob) and Margaret Murray (Mike); three brothers and their spouses, Stanley (Rose), Kenneth (Lorraine) and Eugene Colburn. Members of the Clay County Rescue Squad will serve as pallbearers. Mr. Colburn's nephews and other C.C.R.S. members will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Barfield Baptist Church on Sunday, August 7, 2016, from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. Send online condolences to www.benefieldfuneralhome.com.
