Reverend Elbert Pierce Deason, 87, passed away at his home July 31, 2017. Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 3, 2017, at 3 p.m. at the chapel of K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center. The Reverend Ken Phillips, the Reverend Bill Caudle and the Reverend Craig Spurlin will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the Jacksonville City Cemetery. His family will receive friends Thursday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Elbert was a graduate of Jacksonville High School and Droughn Business College in Birmingham. He served in the U.S. Navy four years and attended Jacksonville State University for two years. Elbert retired as manager with Belk's Department Stores after 36 years of service. Throughout his life, he was a preacher for 25 years in various churches in Alabama and North Carolina. He graduated from Covington Theological Seminary with an Associate Degree in Religious Education. Mr. Deason is survived by his wife, Martha Sue Deason; son, Dennis and Twyla Deason; daughter, Denise and Ed Powell; grandchildren, Drew Deason, Alison Wilkey, Aja Deason, Dr. Tyler Powell and Rhiannon Powell Lorenzo; five great-grandchildren; step-children, Teresa and Tim Buse, Patricia and Raj Singh, and Melisia Hollingsworth Carrizales; and five step-grandchildren; three step-great- grandchildren; sisters, Janie Nunnally and Elizabeth Faulkner (Art); several nieces and nephews. Mr. Deason is preceded in death by his parents, Olan and Alva Deason; former wife, Doris Deason. Pallbearers will be Bobby Newell, Ken Green, Gene Lockette, Donnie Kelley, Steve Johnson and Ray Naugher. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Tyler Powell, Drew Deason, Aaron Buse, Dylan Hollingsworth, Kagan Hollingsworth and Blake Miller. Flowers will be accepted or memorials can be made to Westside Baptist Church Building Fund, 713 Mountain Street NW, Jacksonville, AL 36265.
