On Friday morning, July 3, 2015, Eleanor Joyce Mims passed away at her home at the age of 85, after a long battle with congestive heart failure and vasculitis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Leonard Mims of 58 years, one month prior on June 4, 2015; her mother, Ruby Lisenbe Johnson; father, Clarence Leroy Johnson; brothers, Grover and Clarence Johnson and sisters, Hazel Johnson, Mary Johnson Melton and Linda Johnson Cole. Joyce was born in Anniston and resided in Birmingham in the Irondale area. She is survived by her brother, Johnny Johnson and many nieces and nephews. Joyce was employed in the clerical field for many years at Ashcraft and Jay Jewelers. Upon retirement she was self-employed cleaning homes in the Birmingham and Mountain Brook areas. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and the many friends she made over the years. She had a loving and generous spirit and was loved by all who had the privilege to know her. A joint memorial service will be held at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at 2 p.m. where their ashes will reside. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the charity of their choosing.
