The funeral service for Elijah Jason "Eli" Sims, 3, will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Barfield Baptist Church with the Rev. John Howell officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Eli passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 after a brave battle with Hepatoblastoma. Eli loved his John Deere Gator, riding the Kubota, checking on the baby chicks and playing with Play-doh. He was the Grand Marshal for the Ashland Christmas parade and an honorary fireman for the Ashland Fire Department. His favorite songs were '10,000 Reasons' by Matt Redman and 'Jesus Loves Me'. Eli is survived by his parents, Jason and Kelcey Sims, of Lineville; two brothers, Collin and Noah Sims, of Lineville; his grandparents, Deborah and Rodney Pless, of Lineville and Sandra Sims, of Raleigh, N.C.; his great-grandparents, Frances and Willie Price, of Lineville; his uncles and aunts, Matthew and Gwen Sims, of Raleigh, N.C., and Brad and Mandy Pless, of Ohio, and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jerry Sims and his great-grandparents, Rufus Paul and Nannie Pless. Pallbearers will be Randall Upchurch, Jason Upchurch, Tony Mitchell and Justin Bishop. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 3-8 p.m. at Barfield Baptist Church. The family will accept flowers, however, memorial contributions may be made to help further childhood cancer research or online contributions to The at www.wish.org or Give Kids The World at www.gktw.org.
