Funeral services for Elizabeth Ann Mason, 57, of Houston, Texas, will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at K.L. Brown Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Alabama with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at K.L. Brown Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at Clear Lake United Methodist Church, in Houston, Texas on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. Beth passed on Saturday, November 18, 2017, after a long battle with breast cancer. Beth fought the disease with all her strength and with all her will. She believed that she could use her experiences to help others, and served as a guide, resource and friend to many who also faced this battle. She had a prayer team of people all across the country who loved and supported her. Beth was born on December 24, 1959, in Anniston, Alabama. She is a graduate of Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, California, and of Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. At JSU, she was active in the Baptist Campus Ministry and a lifelong fan of the Marching Southerners and Ballerinas. After graduating from JSU, Beth moved to Houston, Texas, and began a career of more than 30 years supporting the U.S. Space Program. She served as a Data Management Specialist for the International Space Station, joining the project in the late 1980's and spent the last 21 years employed by Boeing. She was extremely proud of her role in the space program and received multiple awards for her work. She was invited as a guest to a number of Space Shuttle launches in recognition of her contributions. She was an active member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas, and was a member of the choir for more than thirty years. She was a key part of the singles ministry and active in her Sunday School class. Beth also served on a number of church committees. She is survived by her sister, Lynn Mason Crook (Rob), of Winfield, Alabama; a brother, Craig Mason (Muriel), of Olathe, Kansas; a niece, Megan Crook, of Winfield, Alabama; nephews, Kevin Crook (Hannah), attending the University of Alabama, Huntsville, Alan Mason, attending The Ohio State University, and Larry Mason, attending Jacksonville State University; and great nephew and niece, Caison and Karissa Crook of Huntsville, Alabama. She is also survived by her stepfather, Ronald Mikatarian, of Houston, Texas and stepbrothers, Doug Mikatarian (Michelle), of Pleasanton, California, and Jeff Mikatarian (Kim), of Huntsville, Alabama. She had a very close relationship with her aunt, Ann Sewell Key (John), of Merritt Island, Florida, and is survived by numerous cousins and relatives. She is also survived by a large number of dear friends who have cared for her and supported her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alan C. Mason and Jean Sewell Mason Mikatarian, and by her grandparents, Edward Bonds and Geraldine Merritt Sewell of Jacksonville, Alabama, and Walter A. and Mary Ann Smith Mason, also of Jacksonville, Alabama.
