Ret. Col. Ernest S. Banks of the United States Air Force passed away on March 23, 2017. He was born on June 9, 1925 in Winder, Georgia to G.L. and Susie Banks. He is survived by his daughter, Penny C. Mitchell; son, Brian S. Banks, and his youngest daughter and caregiver, Barbara Jean Banks. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, who was the love of his life for 65 years, Alta J. Banks, and a daughter, Debbie Banks. Mr. Banks was a member of Antioch Presbyterian Church of Watkinsville, Ga. He was a 30 years veteran, serving in Korea, two tours in Vietnam, and the Dominican Republic. During his time in the Air Force, he became base commander of Ellsworth Airforce Base in South Dakota. As a child, he always dreamed of being a pilot and out of all the planes he flew, his favorite plane was a C-130. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
