Eseyo "Kay" Goins, 88, passed away peacefully of natural causes at the Glenwood Nursing Home in Florence, Alabama, on Friday May 29, 2015. She had been living in Florence for the last several years under the devoted care of her youngest son William L. Goins and his family. Kay was born Eseyo Takayama in Japan on January 20, 1927. She met and married her husband, L.B. Goins, when he was stationed in Japan. They spent most of their married life in the Anniston area after L.B. was stationed to Ft. McClellan in 1957. Kay was well known for her many artistic talents whether she was painting, making ceramics, knitting, crocheting, designing clothes, or sewing. She utilized her skills as a seamstress and worked at Oxford Fashions for many years which was followed by her own business, Kay's Alterations. She later added quilt making and many friends in the Anniston area treasure one of her quilts today. In addition to her creative talents, Kay and her husband L.B. owned and operated Goins Greenhouse located in Weaver, Alabama, which was greatly respected for the outstanding quality of their plants. When Kay found time away from sewing or planting she enjoyed the company of her very close circle of Japanese friends whom also lived in the Anniston area. In 1982, she accompanied her middle son Thomas L. Goins on a trip to visit Japan for the first time in 30 years. In 2000, Kay paid for all three sons to visit Japan. Bobby, her eldest son who only spoke Japanese until the age of four, was especially thankful to return to his birthplace. Kay is predeceased by her husband L.B. and her eldest son Bobby R. Goins. She is survived by Bobby's widow, Vickie L. Goins, of Roswell, Ga., middle son, Thomas L. Goins and his wife, Andrea H. Goins, of Walpole, N.H. and youngest son, William L. Goins and his wife JoAnne S. Goins, of Florence, Ala. In addition, she is survived by five grandchildren, Jason Goins, Jennifer Goins York, Alexa Goins Hu, Hadyn Goins, Davis Goins; and six great-granddaughters. There will be a private family memorial in late June. Greenview Funeral Home assisted the family.
