Funeral service for Mrs. Evon Whitten Cassity, 91, will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at Meadowbrook Baptist Church with David Haynes officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Cassity passed away on January 5, 2017 at Gadsden Health and Rehab. She is survived by sons, Ran Cassity (Nina), Mark Cassity (Jeannette); seven grandchildren, John Day, Cpt. Tyler Cassity, U.S. Army, Jared Cassity, Whittney Anderson (Jack), Audrey Cassity, Sarah Cassity, Ethan Cassity; two great- grandchildren, Mackenzie and Evelyne; several nieces and nephews including, June Haynes, Bobbie McElhaney, Grady Whitten, James Ray Taylor, John Hoover, and a host of great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Randall Q. Cassity; son, Thomas Woodie Cassity; one brother and seven sisters. Mrs. Cassity was a 1944 graduate of Munford High School. As a senior in high school, she became one of the first women to be hired at Anniston Army Depot. She worked there as Branch Chief until her retirement in 1981. She was a very active volunteer in the community and church, volunteering for many years at Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church and Eastern Star. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the excellent care givers at Regency Pointe in Rainbow City and at Gadsden Health and Rehab.
