Funeral service for Fletcher Cheatwood, 95, will be Saturday, July 25, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with Steve Cheatwood officiating. Burial will be in Rabbittown Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6-8 p.m. Mr. Cheatwood died on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Gadsden RMC. He is survived by his sister, Gaye C. Miller, of Hammond, La.; two nieces, Debby M. Mitchell, of Piedmont and Melissa M. (Bryan) Sealy, of Houston, Texas; four nephews, Greg B. (Cindy) Morrow, of Piedmont, Jeff D. (Madeline) Miller, of Denham Springs, La., Steve (Rita) Cheatwood, of Anniston and Kenneth (Kate) Upchurch, of Anniston; three great-nieces, Elizabeth Mitchell, Carsyn Morrow and Rachel Upchurch; six great-nephews, Mitchell Upchurch, Brian Cheatwood, Zach Miller, Jesse Miller, Kyle Morrow and Tripp Sealy; a very special friend, Madeline Haines, of Fullerton, Calif. and his best friend, Ted Houck. Pallbearers will be nephews, David Hill, Ted Houck and Bryan Hammonds. Mr. Cheatwood received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Alabama and spent his career as a farmer in Rabbittown. He loved his country and proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Enterprise in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Mr. Cheatwood enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and deeply cared for his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, who were the children and grandchildren he never had. In his spare time he loved to talk to people and watch the Lawrence Welk and the Antique Road Shows. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brock Shepard Cheatwood and Elizabeth Dothard Cheatwood; two sisters, Carol C. Upchurch and Sarah C. Morrow; one brother, Wallace J. Cheatwood; and two nieces, Susan E. Upchurch and Verona C. Hill. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Rabbittown Church Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, 2450 Rabbittown Road, Piedmont, AL 36272.
