A Funeral service for Mrs. Frances H. Hickman, of Anniston, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday July 18, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church Acker Chapel with Pastor Peter Hawker officiating. Following the service there will be a private burial. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Acker Chapel. Mrs. Hickman was at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital when she passed away on July 14, 2015, and went to her eternal home. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Frank Heathcock; her husband of 47 years, George Calvin Hickman; and a granddaughter, Mary Margaret Frances Hough. Mrs. Hickman was born in Anniston, where she lived for most of her life. She attended Perdue University and The University of Alabama. She had a long career as a civil servant and was proud to have had a career that served her country. She worked as an executive assistant at various military bases in the southeast, and retired from Fort McClellan where she worked for 32 years. Upon her retirement, she enjoyed cooking, gardening and traveling with her sister. Frances Hickman was a dedicated and loving sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a faithful and active member of the First United Methodist Church for most of her life and was a member of the Carre' Sunday School class where she made many lifelong friends. Her family and friends will always remember her with a smile on her face and a positive attitude even as she dealt with health challenges. She had an amazing resilience and maintained an engaging sense of humor throughout her life. She loved her special bond with her sister and closet friend, Dot Heathcock and her close family ties with cousins, Anne Powers, Helen and Bill Powers and Carol and Percy Brooks. Mrs. Hickman is survived by her two daughters, Debbi Towns and her husband, Tim, of Birmingham and Jan Hough and her husband, Tom, of Atlanta; a sister, Dot Heathcock, of Anniston; three grandchildren, Jordan Towns, of Birmingham, Tommy Hough and his wife, Chelsea, of Boston, Mass. and Houston Hough and his wife, Anna, of Atlanta. The family is grateful for the special care and love shown to her by caregivers, Sherry Walker, Elsie Pilot and Regina Bradford. Pallbearers will be Jordan Towns, Tommy Hough, Houston Hough, Tom Hough, Tim Towns and Dennis Sparks. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Carre' Sunday School Class. The family requests memorials be made to The First United Methodist Church of Anniston, or the . Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
