Frances Merle McAbee Summers, 88, formerly of the Garden House, widow of John Howard Summers, passed away Friday, December 9, 2016. Born September 23, 1928, in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late James Hoyt and Tommie Salmon McAbee. Raised in Alabama, she was a graduate of the University of Alabama. She was a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church where she was active in her Sunday School Class for over 25 years. Frances was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are her two sons, John Summers (Margaret Clare) of Pendleton and Jim Summers (Nancy) of Greenville; five grandchildren, Marci Waldorf (Ben), Perrie Summers, Ryan Summers (Brittany), Rebecca Summers and Mark Summers, and four great-grandchildren. Frances was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Mark Summers. A service will be held at a later date.
