Frances Phillips Smith, 78, died Sunday, October 18, 2015, after a brief illness. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Confederacy and a former member of the Fort Payne Culture Club. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Glenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Rickey Smith officiating. The family received friends Monday from 4-6 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home Fort Payne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Family Life Center at First United Methodist Church, 206 Grand Avenue NW, Fort Payne, AL 35967. She is survived by her three sons, Phillip Smith, David (Penny) Smith and Tim (Tammy) Smith, all of Fort Payne; nine grandchildren, Kyle (Ashley) Payne, of Marietta, Ga., Kristen Barnett, of Rainsville, Molly (Evan) King Sugar of Hill, Ga., Morgan Franks, of Jacksonville, Ala., Laura Ellen Smith, of Fort Payne, Allie Smith, of Oxford, Mississippi, Ben (Carrisa) Smith, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Augusta Smith, of Nashville, Tennessee, Blaire Smith, of Fort Payne; and six great-grandchildren, Natalie Brynn Meriwether Jackson, Drake Ayden Oliver Jackson, Kyle Andrew Taylor Barnett, Havilyn Fay Shelby Barnett, Ella Harper Payne, and Luke David Payne. She was preceded in death by her parents, O.L. and Annie Phillips and her best friend of more than 50 years Emma Jordan. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
