Frank Lamar Boyd Sr. died Sunday morning, December 4, 2016, at Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta, Ga., having suffered a stroke in November. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, William Franklin Boyd and Annie Cleora Boyd of Heflin. Frank is survived by his wife, of 64 years, Mary Jo Hand Boyd, and his children, Frank Jr. (Pamela), of Auburn, Mary Ann (Michael) Obrien, of Powder Springs, Ga.; Steve and significant other, Dawn McKelvey of Acworth, Ga.; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Freida Boyd Moore, of Pensacola, Fla., and many loving nieces and nephews. Frank was born August 13, 1930 in Heflin. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama in Civil Engineering. He was the owner of Frank L. Boyd & Associates engineering company, where he conducted business throughout Cobb County and the metro area. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was member of Powder Springs First United Methodist Church for over 50 years and served in many capacities. The funeral service will be held at the Powder Springs First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec 7th with the Rev. Roger Vest and the Rev. Woody Spackman officiating. Visitation will be today, from 4-6 p.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Powder Springs, Ga. Interment will be held at the Heflin City Cemetery in Heflin.
