Funeral service for Fred Maurice Herbert Jr. , 67, will be on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. John H. James officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Anniston Memorial Gardens. A wake will be this evening 6-8 at the Chapel. Mr. Herbert's remains will arrive at the church two hours prior to his service. Mr. Herbert passed away on September 6, 2014. Mr. Herbert retired from the United States Army, received the Purple Heart Medal and also retired from Anniston Army Depot. Survivors include his wife, Betty Sturkie Herbert; his sons, Kendall (Sherrie) Sturkie, of The Woodlands, Texas, Walter (Sheri) Sturkie and Marcus Herbert, all of Jacksonville, and Marvin (Shayon) Herbert, of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Ryan, Isabel, Shaun, Emma, Cassandra, Samiah, Alandra, Megan and Darrell; siblings, Annie Ruth Casic, Ernestine Herbert, Lula Herbert, Selvia Herbert, all of Detroit, Mich., and Theodis Herbert, of Berkley, Cali.; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred Herbert Sr. and Annie Lee Palmore Herbert; siblings, Ethel Herbert and Lester Herbert.
