MSG (RET) Frederick Albert Crane died on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Gadsden RMC. He was born in Seneca, Kansas in 1941. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeanette H. Crane and daughter, Angela M. Crane, of Jacksonville; his son, Michael A. (Barbara) Crane, of Keller, Texas; two grandchildren, Shayla (Mark) Christian, of McKinney, Texas and Sean Crane (girlfriend, Emily Noble), of Dallas, Texas; one step-granddaughter, Claire Christian, of McKinney, Texas; one sister, Roberta Robbins, of Perris, Calif. and several nephews, nieces and cousins. MSG (RET) Crane served his country proudly for 26 years from August 28, 1958 until September 30, 1984. He was a Vietnam veteran who served with MACV-SOG, 5th Special Forces Group. In 2003, the MACV-SOG unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. He was awarded various medals to include the Bronze Star, Air Medal and Combat Infantryman's Badge during his tour in Vietnam. He was a member of various organizations to include the Special Operations Association (SOA), Big Red One, 3rd Armored Division, 8th Calvary, etc. His military career included 20 years Infantry and six years Chemical. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew J. and Mary McGehee Crane; four sisters, Mary Morvant, Peggy Shockey, Betty and Judy Crane (twins). Graveside service will be held at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery on Friday, April 22, 2016, at 1 p.m. CST (2 p.m. EST), with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the National Infantry Museum, 1775 Legacy Way, Columbus, GA 31903. Online condolences to the family at K.L.
