The funeral service for Mr. Gary Travis Pippin, 66, will be at 1 p.m. on today, December 9, 2016, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with Dr. Roland Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Wedowee. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Pippin passed away on December 7, 2016 at NE Alabama Regional Medical Center. Mr. Pippin was born in Anniston to Barbara Pippin Watts. In 1969, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as an Air Traffic Controller. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 21 years of honorable service to his country. He began a second career as a drug task force office for Calhoun County and served his community in that capacity for 10 years. Upon his second retirement, he was asked to train for bomb detection through Homeland Security. He was a public servant as well as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and avid Alabama fan. Mr. Pippin is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Pippin Watts, and his grandparents, Odis and Eva Poss. He is survived by his wife, Kim Fuller Pippin; his daughters, Amy Pippin Webb (Derek) and Canilla Thompson (David); his sons, Shane Pippin (Lisa), Lance Bolt (Jennifer) and Lanny Bolt; numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren; his sisters, Patsy Pippin Jones (Jimmy), Teena Pippin, and Dee Sculthorpe (Darrell), and a brother, Odis Pippin (Debbie). Pallbearers will be Layton McGrady, Richard Smith, Mike Reese, Rick Searcy, Glen Pettus and Andy Hunter. The family wishes to thank Dr. John Nwogu for the care given to Mr. Pippin.
