Anniston - Funeral services for Mr. Gene Copenhaver, 61, of Anniston, will be Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Bryan Lowe officiating. Interment will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 14, 2013, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the church. Mr. Copenhaver passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013. Mr. Copenhaver was a native of Winchester, Virginia, and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Mr. Copenhaver is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Arbelia Copenhaver; and a sister, Judy Fishel Nicholson. Survivors include his wife, Frances Copenhaver; daughters, Amber Copenhaver Sprayberry and her husband, Jason, and Robin Howett and her husband, Rick; sons, Steven Whelchel, Christopher Copenhaver, and Daniel Whelchel and his wife, Michele; grandchildren, Corey, Brandon, Alexis, Hannah, Haley, Tiffany, and Allison; sister, Linda Barker; brothers, Roger Copenhaver and Danny Copenhaver; and many nieces nephews, and extended family members. Pallbearers will be Lee Stone, Kenneth Stone, Kevin Cramer, Rick Howett, Wayne Reaves, and Gene Howell. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Richard Ingram of Winchester, Va., staff of AlaCare Hospice of Anniston, and staff of the VA Hospital of Birmingham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AlaCare Hospice of Anniston, 2109 Hwy 78 East, Anniston, AL 36207. Online condolences may be made to the Copenhaver family at K.L.
