Genubath Coke Williams, 83, passed away peacefully, December 18, 2014 in Pell City. Son of the late Dr. Mark Johnson Williams and Effie Mae Fulton Williams, he was a native of Oxford. Coke attended Calhoun County High School (later known as Oxford High School) and the University of Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army 1953-55 and returned to attend Law School at UA. His law practice in Anniston spanned 45 years. A charter member of the Kiwanis Sunrisers Club, he served as its second president. In his retirement, he nurtured a lifelong interest in plants by becoming a Master Gardener. Through the Master Gardeners he was instrumental in the founding of Cane Creek Community Gardens at McClellan. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of the Bridge Club of Anniston. Survivors include his children, Molly Williams Burr (Bubba) of Chattanooga, Tenn., Coke Williams Jr. (Kelly), of Birmingham, Brooke Williams (Leah), of St. Louis, Mo., Jim Williams (Robin), of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Fulton Coke Williams, Faulkner Williams, Larkin Williams, Anna Mae Williams, Ivy Williams, Thomas Burr and Charlie Burr; sisters, Jane Fulton Williams, of Birmingham, Louise Williams Lokey (Robert), of Anniston, Mary Williams Tartt, of Livingston; brother-in-law, Richard Jones, of Alexandria, Va.; 11 nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were brothers Mark Williams Jr., James W. Williams and sister, Jody Williams Jones. A memorial service will take place Monday, December 22, 2014, 1 p.m., at First United Methodist Church of Oxford. The Rev. Richard Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial gifts may be made to the Cane Creek Community Garden, c/o Calhoun County Master Gardeners, 1702 Noble Street, Suite 108, Anniston, AL 36201.
