Memorial service for George H. Deyo, 87, will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017, at Grace Episcopal Church with The Rev. Dr. Lee F. Shafer officiating. Mr. Deyo passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017, at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Family members include his wife, of 65 years, Barry Deyo; four children; four grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. George was a native of Anniston. His great- great-grandfather, General Daniel Tyler, cofounded Anniston in 1872. His high school years were at the Lawrenceville school in New Jersey, where he prepared for Princeton, his father's alma mater. George graduated from Princeton with a degree in Architecture. He received a commission in the Army and married the beautiful Anne Barrington Lupton, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. George was a trustee and treasurer for Stringfellow Hospital, a director and membership chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Vice-President of the Choccolocco Council Boy Scouts of America, President of the Anniston Association of Life Underwriters, a member of the Vestry at Grace Episcopal Church, teacher of adult classes and layreader and a member of the Calhoun County Republican Executive Committee. He was elected to the first Anniston City Council as Vice-Mayor. George was an agent for New York Life Insurance Company since 1964. He was still at work daily serving his many clients. He was proudest of all of his loving family and he believed that this community has a proud past and great future.
