A memorial service for George Howard Sommers Sr., 83, will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Austin officiating. Mr. Sommers died November 20, 2015 at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Catherine D. Sommers, of Jacksonville; two daughters, Michelle Marie Sommers, of Jacksonville and Amber (Gary) Fischer, of Cary, Ill.; a son, George H. (Kathy) Sommers Jr., of Springfield, Ga.; six grandchildren, Hope Coe, John Fischer, Jim Fischer, Astra Sommers, Brandi Kay and Brett Cox; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Jean Hunt, of Galena, Mo.; a brother, Robert Gene Sommers, of Lawrenceville, Georgia. Mr. Sommers was a retired maintenance engineer at the Ft. McClellan Child Development Center and served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Lions Club and the VFW. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amedysis Hospice, 115 West Grand Avenue #70, Rainbow City, AL 35906.
