Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Williams Southside Chapel for Mr. George Padgett, 69, who went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 8, 2016. The Rev. Ellis McDill will officiate. Burial will be at Williams Southside Cemetery. Williams Southside Funeral Home will direct. Mr. Padgett was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Lee Brass as a millwright with 42 years of service. George was preceded in death by his parents, Gaddis Padgett and Clara Mathews; sisters, Margaret, Dot, Sally and Shirley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Grady and Eunice Hathcock and his sisters-in-law, Martha Hudson, Doris Nolin and Gail Parker. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Padgett; daughter, Shellie (Kevin) McClellan; son, Brad (Alisha) Padgett; grandchildren, Brittany McClellan and Dalton McClellan; brothers, Johnny, Bill and Joe Padgett; sister, Grace (Gary) Powell and by his loving dog, Kipper a.k.a "Chipper". Pallbearers will be Jimmy Padgett, Mike Wood, Josh Nelson, Michael Nolin, Kevin McClellan and James Nolin. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Miller, Tyler Morgan and Dalton McClellan. Special thanks to Mike and Barbara Wood, Liz Hartzog, Tom and Ginger Jatco, Larry and Wanda McGinnis, Kevin McClellan, Carolyn and Roger Smith, Dr. Harry Erba and staff of the 7th floor at UAB and to the staff of Alacare Hospice. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 - 8 at Williams Southside Funeral Home and on Saturday from 1 p.m. until service at the funeral home.
